Russian President Vladimir Putin, today held the first face talks with
a Western leader since the beginning of the crisis in Ukraine, to meet
with British Prime Minister David Cameron in Paris.
The
meeting, in a customs area of the airport Charles de Gaulle, the
French capital, in the evening, came after Cameron participated at a
meeting of G7 leaders who issued a warning to the effect that Russia
will face further sanctions if it does not stop meddling in the affairs of its southern neighbor, Ukraine.
It is envisaged that Putin will meet later today with French President
François Hollande, before being present at the ceremony to mark the 70.
Anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, on Friday.
On the same day, the Russian head of state will meet also with German Chancellor Angela Merkel before the ceremony.
There is no scheduled formal meeting with Barack Obama, but the U.S.
President has indicated that it is likely that there is some exchange of
views with his Russian counterpart.
"I
have no doubt that I will see Mr. Putin. If we have chance to chat,
you'll convey the same message I have conveyed throughout the crisis,"
Obama said in the G7 talks in Brussels.
