MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, asked on Friday to rapid discontinuation of bloodshed and military actions in Ukraine, Russian news agencies reported, citing a spokesman for the Kremlin.
The two leaders met for the first time since Russia annexed the Crimea in a ceremony in which world leaders celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy, France, during World War II - the so-called D-Day
"In a brief conversation, both Putin as Poroshenko asked to quickly end the bloodshed in southern Ukraine, as well as the fighting on both side between the Ukrainian forces and supporters of the federalization of Ukraine", said the agency RIA Novosti , citing as its source the spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
